EMILY ROZ

Emily Roz’s paintings highlight sections of the female body––cropped limbs and torsos in deep aqua, violet, and magenta that appear to float across striped patterns, constellations, and pearls, seemingly extending beyond the physical limits of the canvas. Using her own body as reference, she navigates the relationship between painter and model while exploring the complexities of female objectification, desire, and consumption. Roz was born in New Haven, CT in 1972 and lives and works in New York, NY. She received a BA from Hampshire College in 1994 and an MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1998.
